Hi all
Has any of you guys tried different values in your 1.1 or 2.1 kits?
I would love to know if you have.
I have replaced the caps in my DAC 1.1 three times, first were the AN paper in Oil (leaked) then the later AN Myler film in Oil, and lastly installed V-Cap Teflon .22 600V.
The values were .039 for the original fitment, then .22 for the next installs, including the V-Cap.
I worry about wax based caps in tubed gear, as it can fail, as did my paper in oils. Plus I live in South Spain were we get 30°C in the house for July and August! I got static noise through the pre amp volume pot, which was DC leaking past the oil caps.
My pre amp is an Audio Note M3 factory, with 100 k ohms input impedance, so the lower cap values are ok. The DAC might not work so good with an SS pre amp as some can go down to 20 K ohms or less, which would thin the sound.
I love my sound right now, and found it is much better with the V-Caps than AN coppers. I get more detail and transparency, but also more dynamics and bass as well. The copper caps were holding the signal back. If the speakers and amp are matched then I think the extra detail of the V-Caps works great. If you have a brighter sounding system already (maybe SS power amps) then it might be too much?
