The toe in has to be worked at for your room. I would literally start them as far into the corner as you can and toed in a LOT and I mean so that the tweeters seems to fire directly out of the corner. Indeed, I toed them in to the point that the speakers were facing eachother (as it does say in the manual that this can actually work). And amazingly it sounds a lot better than you would think they would sound with such a ridiculous toe in.
I think we're all so used to a certain set-up that the E throws a bit of a curveball at us when we look and think it can't work and yet it can and often does. Not all that many years ago I didn't think an 8 watt amp and an 8 inch could have any decent bass and what do you know.
The other interesting thing is that I had to take my room treatments down off the side walls - they sound better without them. Now the treatments help my other speakers but not the AN's which seemed to muddy them up and take the energy and life out of the music.
I have since placed the speakers such that the tweeters are firing about 3-4 feet in front of my head - but I would say that this would be room related - my room is about 13 x 16
