For all those who may be interested, my custom AN/E project continues.
To recap briefly, I have created a custom base for the speaker which integrates an external crossover. As such, I've made the base fit aesthetically with the rest of the speaker, and integrated the access port on the base of the speaker instead of the rear.
The boxes were made by Brian via his carpenter, Carl using the usual 13-ply Russian birch plywood. Speaker kits are the AN/E Kit 04, and are in fact the exact kits that Brian features on his website.
Following fabrication, I decided to get them veneered and finished. Veneering was expertly done by Darren Jensen of Jensen Cabinetry in Carlsbad, CA using a wood-backed high density bird's eye maple. Veneering was done on all sides, including backs and bases. The veneer was then stained and finished by Tim Hickson of Woodcrafters Workshop, also in Carlsbad. He used a light oil stain followed by about 7 light coats of precatalyzed lacquer for a durable finish.
The original crossover and board are used as the rear access plate for the crossover base. Wires then exit the box through the top with terminations as banana plugs (Audio Note of course), which then mate with speaker terminals on the base of the speaker box. I custom ordered aluminum plates from Front Panel Design.
I'm just finishing the wiring and installation, so hopefully these will be up and running within a couple of days.
