I have the ANK DAC 2.1 Level B Signature Dac. My preamp is an Audio Research SP16-L tube preamp with three 1960's Mullard Short Plate 12AX7 tubes. The person who recommend the Preamp long before I order the Dac told me that the unit does not like high voltage inputs. This person could have worked for ARC yet he turned it down.
Brian sent me a pair of Resistors to place piggyback in parallel around the AD1865 Dac chip.
Using a multi--meter, I measured, using the 1 KHz disc, an output of 2.0 Volts DC.
I just finished listening to Muddy Waters Folk Singer MFSL UDC2 remastered version. I must point out I use the USB from my laptop as I rip my CDs to the External Hard drive and then encode the WAV files to FLAC.
I was not able to raise the volume to a lever that I liked, as the setting was low before the change. Now I can raise the volume of the CD to just under 50% and the sound quality was so good. There was better space, depth, highs, bass tones, etc.
This Dac with the USB is truly a great Piece of Audio as IMHO is the best bang for the buck period!
