Hi everyone,
My Kit1 PQ just blew its fuse, after the rectifier tube sparked.
In retrospect, I think the rectifier sparked once before, but I thought it to be something else. A few days afterwards, however, one of the Sovtek 300B's stopped glowing. Tapping the tube seemed to reconnect the spiral, restoring sound on that channel for a short moment. To be sure the problems was tube related, I switched the two 300B's and the issue switched channels as well.
Realising the tube was broken, I figured it was time for an upgrade. I collected a matched pair of TJ Full Music 300B's from a local dealer and all was well, for two hours of playing time. Then, the sparking began and a few seconds later the fuse was blown.
Visually, I can't find any problems, caps look normal (flat top).
Questions:
* under what conditions do 5U4G's spark?
* broken rectifier tube, or a symptom of something else?
* anyone seen this before? what was the cause?
Thanks for your replies, regards,
Hans van der Made
