Glad to hear you are liking the Kit 1. I built mine a couple years ago, and luckily have had no problems with it, and it sounds great. With my experience level i wouldn't say it went together easily, but it was fun to build. I also bought the kit03 speakers, and those are a great match with the kit 1.
At this time i am using EH300B tubes. I tried some Chinese 300's, but i thought they were a tad softer in the bass and top end, but a little better in the mids. I rotate the 300's once in awhile for a different sound flavor. I'd like to try some better 300 tubes, but would hate to spend lots of $$, and then be disappointed with the performance.
