I don't know if this has been done before, but I thought it would be cool to ask everyone for their favourite low-cost audio tweak and share a few tips. Almost xmas after all ...
My favourite is the green-pen trick. For those who don't know, a green permanent marker pen giving a thick coat around the outside and inside of a CD (obviously not on either flat surface !) works wonders. I was highly skeptical of this but an evening of blind testing proved it to me. A few of us gathered together duplicate copies of CDs and green-penned one of them. In all cases we easily picked out the one with the green as being warmer and more full-bodied with a sweeter treble and generally a more solid sound. I'm told it stops stray light from the green laser escaping from the CD and interfering with the read mechanism.
Out of interest - how many others currently do this ?
I've also heard of people freezing CDs and using furniture polish but I haven't descended quite that far into madness (yet).
