RE: Passive VS active PSU for preamps

Hello L. This is just my opinion, and based on my experience and preferences. A series pass PS regulation, as in Audio Note's Galahad, or shunt regulated PS is pretty good. HOWEVER, one could do "better" with : hefty mains transformer, efficient rectification, and a choke input filtering. If your mains transformer has high DCR, with economy-size iron, voltage will sag the minute the final stage starts pumping in the bass. Elsewhere in AA, somebody opined that active regulation is "too little, too late" If space permits, I'd go for separate mains transformers - one for B+ (and if in an integrated, B+ pre/driver, and another piece of iron for B+ final), another for filament. And then choke input. =)
