Update. I've now modded the ANK1 further as follows;
- balanced inputs using AN silver tx (superb, worth the extra money)
- HT voltage dropped (see my recent post for full)
- cathode resistor changed from 900R to 1K2 and from wirewound to Kiwame 5W ladder
I now have the WE300B running in a much more relaxed but dynamic setup, with 60mA (instead of 85). Sounds so much better, bass and body to die for, glorious mids, air and space to fly in. Bonus - my WE300B will last longer.
While testing all of these changes I used the chinese pair which came with it. When finished, the swap to the WE just proved again how much difference there is. I even tried the JJs back in there. very good, and while listening you'd struggle to identify what's missing. Until you put the WE back.
6SN7 is a harder choice I think. I settled on a brown base 6SN7WGTA, but we also liked the Ken-Rad VT-231.
