I have a Kit 2 but I have to agree that the supposed "best" tubes like TFK, Mullard, Amperex, Genelex, Tung Sol etc. have not come close to sounding as good - IMHO - to plain Sylvania 12AX7s, Sylvania chrome top 6SN7s and Shuguang KT88s. I'd love to try a round Tung Sol 6SN7 but they're not easy to find, and are $$$. One major score I was able to make were Philips SQ ECC186s, a rare variant of the ECC82 family that makes the DAC 1.1 sing.
