make everything just functional -- though some things were kinda dumb -- My OTO has all the lettering UNDER the control knobs and not particularly visible so if you keep the OTO on a lower shelf you can't see which knob does what. For displays I want them big and bright so I can see them from my listening position. Audio Note is not exactly one of the greats in this industry when it comes to appearance. It may be that Peter is trying to dissasociate his gear from the looks first companies -- but I would make the case to Peter that "Looks Second" is not such a bad idea. No harm in say coming out with a sexed up OTO or other amp -- you can keep the design exactly the same but charge a reasonable optional extra Sexed up design like those Shanling's (but less tacky). I mean people spend "extra" for fancy lacquer on the speakers -- why not use one amp to test whether people would pay a bit more for a gorgeous looking amp to go along with the gorgeous sounding gear? Something maybe along the Orpheus lines or even Jolida makes some cool looking tube amps.
And everyone knows that they will sound the same because it will be the same amp they have sold for 10+ years.
As for the CD players - well I don't know how much choice AN has with the LCD display -- are these not purchased and upgraded transports from one of the big makers like Sony/Phillips?
