I think it's a matter of personal preference but the solid-state section in the Freya+ is not nearly as good as the Kara. It's a different design.The Freya+ in tube mode was good with some of that tube magic but I thought it was a little light in terms of weightiness in the lower mids and down in the bass. The Kara is more 'alive' and dynamic too compared to the Freya+ in tube or solid-state mode.
As a side note I prefer running my Kara in 12dB gain mode.

The Freya+ tubes do glow orange but there's a little bit of tasteful trickery to assist. There are tiny orange LEDs down below.
