Amp/Preamp Asylum Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. |

I have been happily using a Premier 17LS2 together with an MV-60 in my system for the several years. Just recently I have started having a problem where I seem to have too much gain at any given volume setting. That is, even with the volume set relatively low on the volume display (“20”), the system is quite loud, and what used to be my normal listening levels (“40” to “50”, depending on the recording) is far too loud.
There have been no tube or other equipment changes made to my system in the past year.
I understand that the volume control in this unit is microprocessor controlled, and uses relays (I assume to control a resistor ladder that sets the attenuation). Is it possible that one (or more) of the relays is stuck “on”, resulting in this gain issue? Is there anything I can do to try to resolve this problem myself, or does it need to go back to CJ for service?
