I had a WONDERFUL Counterpoint preamp I loved. It broke twice and I stuck it in the closet as a doorstop. Basically gave it away later.
Wish I had it fixed though more than once. It was one of my best preamps ever.
The power supplies are generally crap in them. And seriously need upgrading.
Once that is done, they are decent reliability.Problem is the guy who used to work on them no longer is doing new stuff (I think, I may be wrong) He was $$$$ but did good work*
* though one person in particular really was angry about what he got back after major upgrades and was very pissed about it all. He advertised his preamp for sale over at Audiogon and wrote extensively about how it SUCKED andwhy and who did it to the preamp.
I guess he did not like the penultimate mods or something... Basically the old preamp was gone and some new POS was what it sounded like.
I would'a been pissed too.If I found a SA5000 cheap Hell Yes i would snatch it up.
I owned a SA2000
