At age 17, my first major recalibration of how realistic an audio system could sound was via Tympani IIIs driven by ARC electronics (Crown DC-300a on woofers). I had a Cit 11 preamp at the time and dealer lent me an SP-3a to compare at home over a weekend.
Recording that instantly revealed the difference to me? The opening shakers in Do It Again. One sounded like electronics. The other sounded like live music. Had a lasting effect on me. :)
