Michael Hoatson of The Listening Room (MD suburbs of DC) on FB MUG says the 1.7x is an entirely different sounding speaker. More coherent, faster, open and more dynamic and detailed. Declared it his favorite Maggie. He described it as having had the "guardrails" taken off so that any sharpness or nastiness from a budget upstream component would come through clearly as opposed to being tamped down in the original production.

Personally I would venture to say that it would be a better investment to do an X upgrade on a 3.7 since it sports the ribbon tweeter and would benefit
from this kind of component matching more than would the simpler 1.7.
