Side Panels on 1.7's

I have a brand new pair of 1.7's that came with the standard silver-colored aluminum stiles (side panels). Since I don't care for the silver color, I bought a new set of black aluminum stiles that I'm going to install. So far, I've removed one of the silver stiles (by tapping gently with a hammer on a wood block held to the edge of the stile and sliding it off the top edge), but I haven't been able to get a new black stile to slide into place. It must be trickier than I thought it would be!

Is there some trick to this that I'm missing?
Does someone with experience in doing this have any advice?
