Mono testing Maggies

Over at the "official" Maggie chat room, there was a discussion of material to use to help set up Maggies. One fellow suggested using the mono method, where as one hooks up both speakers to one amp output, and adjust the toe-in and tilt to achieve a proper slim center image.

I use an Aragon amp that has no problem driving low loads, so tried it this morning. Without touching the speakers as they are set now, in my un-treated room, I did get some small variations of the center image, to me it still sounded more spacious than the output of my center speaker in my non-Maggie HT system.

So is this method legit and used by folks here? Wifey's going out of town in a few weeks, figured it would be a good time install my room treatments, less background distortion, if you know what I mean :^) So getting things together, including test material.
