I used to have similar problems -- too much glare. I was, however, reluctant to try and tame the Maggies. What I did is take a more expensive route -- attack the problem at the source. Did a lot of upgrades at the source level, and with each upgrade managed to achieve noticeable reduction in glare.
In my opinion, it pays to take that route -- yes, it is incomparably more expensive than throwing some cloth behind the speakers, but you get to retain the best of both worlds -- truth at the source, as well as the true untamed character of these magnificent speakers.
