I recently ordered some 1/2" x 1/2" F-1 felt stripping from McMaster-Carr to try this idea, but still have to finish and evaluate other mods first (so this response is pretty worthless :^) ).They sell different sizes, just make sure you get as high a felt content as possible (95%).
Using custom frames and running the tweeters on the outside, so figured trying the felt might show any diffraction issues. if nothing else, an easy experiment.
It would be nice to hear other comments on this subject.
