How to remove socks from 3.5s?

Next saturday I will undress my maggies for internal rewiring and implementing peter gunn XO design
I feel confident to do everything needed except removing the socks and above all putting them back (only the black sock in the rear of the speakers)
any ideas suggestions to avoid the pitfalls and mistakes would be welcome.
I change all the 6 internal wires. Do I need to remove the sock frrom the tweeter cavity? Can I leave the sock on the top side of the speaker as well?
