RE: Different definitions of what brightness is...

I've always considered the term "bright" when related to the sound of speakers ("those are bright sounding speakers") to mean the sound is excessive in mid highs and highs - outside of natural timbre. Not necessarily the speaker's fault. The system synergy, placement, and room treatment can make a big difference. There certainly are truly bright speakers and I wouldn't have any of them.

FWIW, I'm a long time Arnie Nudell era Infinity fan (acoustic suspension designs with EMIT planar tweeters) who recently acquired a set of Maggie MG-12. The first time I heard Magnepans (not long ago) my mouth dropped open in amazement.
