Quad ESL-57 stain color options

Wow, lots of Maggie discussion lately...I guess the Quad folks are just simply listening to their Quad ESL's.....no, I'm not trying to start a flame war, just poking some fun -- I own MMG's too (unmodded). Just don't ask me which is the best -- you may get your feelings hurt.

Well. for all you Quad ESL lovers out there, I need some advice for staining the sides and feet. On the (sadly, now defunct) Quad ESL Hotline, a reference was made about the stain: use Minwax "Mandarin Orange" stain to closely match the original. My pair have the copper/bronze/whatever grills, and that stain seems a little 'orange' to me....maybe it just looks different when applied to the wood, vs. the stain sample in the store.

Any recommendations? While I would maybe like to keep the original color (all old color is stripped away), I'm open to suggestions. Please provide full desciptions, full color numbers, or whatever. Pictures would be nice, too. PM me with pics if you can't post here.

Thanks a bunch! My pair date from about 1958 -- if the original stain used was like other parts and pieces, there's no telling what was used on a given day. I've found lots of variance from speaker to speaker.....and the sound is still glorious.
