I agree there's lots of potential to pick up RFI well below 40MHz ... so the cap value definitely needs to be increased.
In terms of "Do you think the Maggie transducers are still purely resistive at frequencies well above audio?" ... well, I used my new Peak LCR bridge recently, to measure my IIIa and Frankenpan drivers. This Peak meter can measure very small values and also simultaneously measures L as well as R ... and scrolls through the values on its little LCD screen.
The inductance of the ribbon was about 5 uH; from memory the test frequency used was 200Khz. That's a pretty damn small inductance - so surely the ribbon will be almost entirely resistive at high frequencies?
If I used a 10ohm res in the RC network, won't that be in parallel with the 3 ohms of the ribbon and so give me a combined resistance of just over 2 ohms? (Which my amp would not like! :-(( )
Or does the amp not see that resistor as one end is "blocked" by the cap? So it still sees 3 ohms for the ribbon?
Regards,
Andy

- Good points, thanks Dave. Would be interested to know your HF 'L' measurements. nt - andyr 15:46:15 08/18/10 (0)
