If I understand what you did, then you should have a yellow wire attached to one end of the fuse and the blue wire to the black wire coming from the fuse block. The choke should be be between the red wire and the positive input terminal. This modification is pretty simple and I think it is unlikely that you didn't do it right. Therefore the most probable thing is that the solder joint is not right ("cold joint"). Try re-heating the "new" connections to get the solder to flow and see if this helps.
