Classicism vs Romanticism. Science and Art. Neither side will give because it compromises their fundamental beliefs. Practical people have all ready offered compromises that would have worked for me were I in either position, but PG at least has offered a treaty in effect in the form of offering to help VD sell the offending items.
Quite possibly at a profit. Now I would take that deal because I'm not emotionally involved in this.
But if VD IS emotionally involved, which I think is clear, it's not that simple. We're talking about stuff that costs real money. I don't know what VD's resources are but I'm pretty sure that PG can't afford to just write off the costs of a 3.6 mod.
His terms are clear: Once it's done it can't be changed. If you don't like it we'll help you sell it. That's a fair guarantee.
If I didn't like mine I'm positive I could sell them for what I paid. Or more, the "have it now" imperative works almost all of the time with one of a kind items. I nearly bought a pair about six months ago that were up for sale. They weren't to my taste, though, and I chose to wait for some that I had personally spec'd. Reasonable.
Now VD thought, IMHO, that PG works exactly to spec. He doesn't, in my experience. He colors outside the lines and in many cases his judgement and experience proves to exceed expectations. In my case this was certainly true. I was willing to pay the upcharge for granadillo crossover boxes, but when PG discovered that the wood he purchased wasn't actually granadillo he ate the cost and did it anyway with the mahogany.
It worked out well, but HE ATE THE COST and didn't charge extra for it. That to me speaks of integrity. He certainly didn't need to do that. He didn't need to make the bases the way he did, either. I didn't order that, I wouldn't even have thought to do so.
After all, If I didn't trust him I wouldn't have hired him to do the job.
And now we come down to the crux of the biscuit. The apostrophe.
VD doesn't like the product. So what if some people do. That's indicative of the fact that people have expressed interest in buying it from him, yet he doesn't seem eager to sell. In his place I would sell. And PG has offered to help him do it, per the terms of the user agreement.
How is that unreasonable or unfair? It is what it is.
This is a difficult situation, but if one side is offering a fair remedy and the other side is refusing to consider it, then we have en impasse where there can be no good outcome.
Enough, I've wasted all the time I care to on this.
Now I will go back to listening to music, and breaking in my crossovers.
Eric
