I don't think so.
The big piece of metal is just a quick'n'dirty solution to stop the "tizzing". I'm getting some smaller pieces of 1/16" steel cut and, hopefully, one of those will do the trick just as well. Then, I'll turn off my bass and ribbon amps, just listen to the mids with a mono source and see if I can hear any difference bewteen the two drivers.
If I can't ... that would presumably be an acceptable fix. :-))
I really don't want to cut into the mylar if I can help it - even though I believe I would be able to get all of the magnet 'shard' out this way.
And if I send the driver back to the factory for a complete rebuild - that would be USD5 - 600 before any Magnepan charge! :-((
