 Well yes, and an interesting one too. And likely to be controversial.

Now before you complain this was posted by "the Home Theater Geek", note that he is merely forwarding another report, he didn't conduct the test.

And yes, you can say well it was not the same test recording, or the few respondents (admittedly an unscientifically significant number) may not have all listened on something with higher resolution than their computers.

For all that, what stood out for me was how close the voting totaled. This should have been an overwhelming choice it seems.

 to imply that compressed digital media can transport the nuance of good audio equipment. That's especially true considering LPs are still the gold standard, and that everything else is just a convenient downgrade.

 Skimmed through as I've reached my fill of audio YouTubers who only have a small amount of useful information to impart but want to spin that to a 10 minute vid.
If the original poll question was only 'which is the TechDAS' that is flawed. A better poll would be two questions:
1. Can you hear a difference
2. Which do you prefer.

That the split was ~ 60/40 is significant but, perhaps, 90% of respondents could tell a difference and got the guess wrong. Just because something is 'better' doesn't necessarily make it preferable - the second question would show that.

 It is not my intention to start an argument on this but just felt I had to comment on your statement.

I was not aware that Fremer said that he 'compressed' the digital file. I'm quite certain he did not do this. And I have always understood that the original master tape was the gold standard, not the LP. It has also been demonstrated that a properly mastered digital transfer, one with no compression, of that master tape is closer to the sound of that tape than an LP.

 I disagree with nearly everything you've said here, but that's a different discussion for a different day. Let's just say I'm a strong proponent of analog sources and vacuum tube amplification. Master tapes for most of the music I enjoy have long since deteriorated such that the LPs from back in the day are the truest copies available of the original sound.

 Take a digital recording and release a CD version and also master it to vinyl. A lot of people will prefer the vinyl version not because of some musical quintessence that the CD cannot convey but because of the things the vinyl cutting & playback chain adds to the sound. Then make a needledrop of that LP and it will sound surprisingly close, if not identical, to the LP playback because digital is accurate enough to capture all those vinyl additions.

 The more expensive TT could sound worse because it is more "revealing" or because the recording it produces is so good the test system is unable to reproduce it.

Like the record wear test from a couple of days ago I wouldn't draw any conclusions on this one.
