Hello, I have an issue with my Pioneer SX980 receiver. When the volume pot is turned completely down noise still bleeds through at a low level. I know that the volume pot has to be reached by going through the receiver and so on. I dont want to disassemble it so I just removed the volume knob on the front by loosening the allen screws just to see if I could reach the inside. I could see that this was not the way in to clean the pot so I tried to simply reverse my steps and reassemble. i have an issue, the knob isn't fitting far enough down the shaft to retighten the allen screws!! There is like a 1/4" gap between the knob and the face. I have removed the allen screws and looked down the inside of the knobs insides and have no idea why this isn't reattaching. Any ideas?

Sometimes the allen screws create small dimples in the shaft. That can create resistance when trying to put the knob back on. You might need to remove the pot and smooth the defects with sandpaper if that's the reason. Above all, don't try to force the knob back on.

Thank you for the tip, I was able to run my fingers on the shaft and felt no burrs of any kind. This is probably something embarrassingly simple but I haven't figured it out.
