Speakers For a GTA 300B amp?

Tried Cabasse Farella (distorts at high levels), Spica (no go), Definitive Tech(ditto), Triangle(eek!), ProAc Studio 125(erhg)...

Room size is 12 by 10. I think big multi way horns or Lowthers are out. What would you use?

I got excellent results pairing Spica TC-50's with Loesch PSE 2A3's, albeit it in a much larger room (12.5' x 30', speakers along the short wall 8' into to the room, 1.75' from the side walls). Power--about 12 watts give-or-take)--was not an issue. All things considered, the best sound I ever got out of the Spica's.

TC 50s, but looked like had some cone problems. Also the GTA is an 8 watt unit. 12 watts sound bigger from my little experience of SETs.

Try Epos 14 -- should be able to get an excellent used pair for under $1000. You want bi-wire version. Although "only" 87db efficient, they have no cross-over (only a cap on the tweeter) and the impedance never falls below 7.2 ohms. My early version Cary 300B SE monoblocks were able to play adequately in moderate sized room. Newer designed and implemented se amps should be improvement. Don't know your SE amp -- but if it's a good one, it should be sufficient to make this speaker sound very good indeed.
Good luck.

Better reconsider the horns. Sounds like you want low distortion and large dynamic range.

I hear that the 1/2 isnt that easy to drive. Depends on the SPLs you want to play music at I guess. We tried speakers like Triangle (90dB)
Definitive Tech (91dB), Cabasse Farella (93dB), ProAc Studio 125 (87dB) with some chance of playing at very moderate volume levels.

But I sometimes (okay, often) like to listen at party levels or ahem
"realistic" volume levels, so this rules them all out. Also music jumps around alot dynamically, and even a Bill Evans trio CD has some
roller coaster dynamic swings that these speakers with 7 watt amps can't do at moderately high volumes.

Which 300B tubes were in which amps? Although I agree that overall the Audio Note is probably a better sounding amp, I think that the differience in 300B tubes and their effect on the resulting sound should also be noted.
