I finally decided to give the new Steve Turre - Sanyas a listen. I am lukewarm on Turre but the band looked exceptionally strong. It's an excellent album. A swinging hard bop session.

Mr. Turre might not be one of your favorites, but he can play. His last album, Generations, was quite good, and this one has a killer band. Thompson is perhaps the best pianist of his young generation, Blake and Payton are playing for keeps, and the veterans Williams and White hold down the fort.

Yes he can. I had a lot of early Turre and then his heaviness into the shells causes me to lighten up. He can absolutely play. I should have mentioned the shells.

Thanks for nudging us to do more. It is really perplexing that the participation is so low. There is so
much great music it is hard to believe.
