I think it a truth universally acknowledged that dCS always get gushing reviews until Goldensound reviewed the Bartok. IIRC, he though the Bartok was good but not that good, not outstanding in any one area and overall poor value as it could be bettered for much less money. Now, it seems, dCS are threatening legal action.

that's why I just listen rather than look at the measurement charts.

At least I know I won't have anything to do with Dcs unless I win the lottery, but I guess we do like to compare everything.

it really does seem a nonsense, dCS nitpicking over fairly minor things with nothing material that Goldensound got wrong. Does seem that they took against him because he wasn't orgasmically positive over their product. And this made me sad coming from a British company as we Brits are all about fair play and playing a straight bat. But then I noticed the complaint letter came from dCS America. Hopefully HQ will deal with this appropriately.

Yea it's always a good idea for me to listen before I buy. That's the problem with a review like this one (which I find personally very off putting) the folks who might actually really be happy with the player might not bother listening because the reviewer wrote the review so negatively. He might not believe he would ever like that product there are people who might find it to be exactly what they needed.

Just a side note : $15K might seem like alot of money but it's obviously a very well built product. Again in my experience one might find similar sound quality in a product costing much less, say $5,000 or less, with less build quality, aesthetic appeal, name recognition and fewer features.

It's the because they ignore the 'how' and look the results.

As I grow older, I now measure 4 times and cut once.

During my last annual physical they measured my height which came in an inch shorter than what it says on my driver's license!

Isn't it an admission of failing to meet the mark when a MFG complains that the review was not laudatory?

This is a highly subjective marketplace that is based on disposable monies - or at least sums of money not needed to survive...

I'm almost 2 inches shorter than I used to be. Some of it's due to 2 knee and a hip replacement.

I thought the DCS DAC (reviewed) has been discontinued. Anyway, I'm happy with my current DAC and music server. I never heard the DCS DAC in the review but I have heard some of their equipment but most of it is out of my budget range.

I don't think there were/are 'serious issues' more the case of other DACs that sounded better to Goldensound for a lot less money. Hence, he labelled the Bartok as poor value.
