I assumed you were asking about the 2 X LP, 50th anniversary edition.
I'd pass. The description at Acoustic Sounds says it's a re-hash of some re-mix done in 2019. Definitely not the sound of the original based on what they said.
No, one of the record stores near me has a reissue with a cover that looks almost exactly like the original I had. It's not terribly expensive, $35 or so, but I don't want to waste the money if it's no good.
I "lost" my original so I bought this one few days ago.
I think it was specified no remastering.
This record is excellent.
Dead quiet and huge dynamic.
Seems reasonable to assume that your local record store has the album linked below. It's the 50th Anniversary re-do by Steven Wilson from a 24/96 digital file. I have it because like yours, mine went missing many years ago and I thought this version would be worth it to have back in my collection. I'm glad I got it...it's well done (cover, pressing quality, etc.) and sounds "good" to me.
Worth $35.?? That's entirely up to you.
I drove to the record store today. It'a the KCLLP1, 200 gram single disc. Bar code is 6 33367 79161 0. They want $28. Reviews online seem very mixed. Everything from "excellent and dynamic" to "dirty and flat."

Jimi Hendrix, a few years before I was born, once called King Crimson the best band in the world. In the 1960s, I understand that. I got to meet them THE FIRST TIME I ever went backstage at a concert at the Wiltern Theater in LA. This was much more modern King Crimson (Thrak era) and the show was good. Backstage was quite tame.
I am building a new collection of LPs post Palisades Fire and there are many King Crimson ones (Red in specific) that will likely be part of the new vinyl collection. I have nearly ALL of them on CD aka: ripped to hard drive but I stream their music most of the time.
Do you think the vintage authenticity of King Crimson on vinyl is worth the LP investment?

"Do you think the vintage authenticity of King Crimson on vinyl is worth the LP investment?"I don't usually buy used LPs, but in that era of music and before, it's the only way to obtain the original quality. Master tapes had already deteriorated by the time most of this material was digitized. I recently picked up three LPs from the early '70s at a local record store for $2 each. They're in excellent condition and they include a live album by Leo Kottke that I've never heard and the original Quicksilver Messenger Service. The latter was stolen from me in the mid-70's, and I hadn't heard it in 50 years. No question I would buy an original King Crimson, and I would certainly be willing to pay a reasonable price.

Thanks for your input. I'm pretty sure the album in question is a single disc, so not the same. I'll drive over to confirm.
