Steve, many years ago I bought a JLTi phono stage. That was in their early production and they recommended a wall wart was perfectly adequate. However a good friend who knew much more about electronics than I did built a regulated power supply for me. Similar to your experience it made a significant sonic difference -- added dynamics, greater spatiality, cleaner more defined bass, etc.
I reported that to JLTi and soon after they began offering an outboard PS alternative to the wart.
Recently I got a Hagerman Trumpet MC phono stage. There are reports of improvements with the Sbooster. Jim promised to try one so I'm looking forward to that report. But I must say the Trumpet is very good with the wart.

...there is someone who bought one for a Trumpet, and he even says that Jim recommended that he try/buy the Sbooster for his Trumpet. It is certainly worth a try.
BTW, I have a Cornet version 3 for sale if you know anyone who is interested. A great phono section, I just wanted MC capability and bought a Parasound JC3+ over a year ago. I think Jim makes great stuff, especially for the money.
That uses a wall wart too...

Steve, I didn't read reviews there, I just tolerated Kevin's video. I did find a couple of positive online comments matching with the Trumpet though.
When ordering my Trumpet MC two months ago I ask Jim about replacing the wall wart. He said then some of his customers made very positive reports, so he thought he would audition one himself. I've been waiting for that. In my system the Trumpet doesn't leave very much for improvement. But admittedly that's an old audio story. ;^)

...I would love to say my system can't get much better, but I went to Axpona this year. There was a lot of nice, very realistic sounding gear there. But I can't really afford it.
