    Why are the big commercial satellite dishes always white? Thermal noise!
    And I never understood why C band back yard consumer dishes were black. They could have gotten a few more DB of C/N if painted white.

    I used to work in that industry on the uplink side.

    P.S. With DBS dishes, DirecTV, Dishnet, it's not significant.

      the guys who discovered the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation first thought that residual noise was coming from pigeon droppings on their antenna!
