What has the best sound? Not concerned with DXing.
Is that a fair price?
Thank you for any comments.
Chris
Even though the FM Tuner Info site (link below) has a lot of DXing, there are always reviews of tuners, and I know it has plenty of TU-717 reviews.
I have owned the Sansui, but I can not recall which Luxman I had.
The Luxman is indeed on the shootouts page on the linked page below, and the reviewer was shocked at its comparison to the reference tuner.
While I may (or may not) have had that particular Luxman, I do recall liking my Lux better than the Sansui.
Not sure in modern dollars if it is a fair price. I would think the Luxman for $300 might be a fair price. It seems like anything today is "expensive". The Luxman was certainly more expensive when new than the Sansui (not that it means a whole lot).
Ancient Tones, go for Sansui TU-717 & its' more compelling countenance. Was an overnight KVMR broadcaster for over a decade (and two months), & noticed most broadcasters would pre-program their shows on I-phones and/or laptops. CD & vinyl playback was a rarity. Moi would rip vinyl sources to cd-r for portability's sake. On previously mentioned Sangean ATS-405, you can quite clearly hear laptop differences of KDVS's student broadcasters. As they rely mostly on digital downloads. Have included HiFiEngine's Sansui TU-717 review. ... 73s para Sactown
Thanks for the comments. I'm all over the place on a new tuner. Now a Macintosh is looking good to me.
