Lots of feedbacks........
I built a power supply for it too since it was bereft of the matching power amps. It was quite musical. The feedback in this preamp is well executed, being mixed with the incoming audio rather than mixed inside the tube. This results in a more musical presentation.
The EF86 as pentode could substitute for the first 12AX7 in the RCA passive phono preamp. If the plate resistor was made slightly lower (the original is 100K), I believe little or no change would be required to the RIAA components. The unused half of the 12AX7 could be used in that case as a cathode follower to reduce output impedance. I don't know if anyone has published such a design.

I have used the EF86, in the first stage of the Bottlehead "Eros" phono stage design. It's been moderately successful.
I believe the EF86 has been popular for use with studio microphones for decades.
The EF86 was the tape head amp in Akai M6-M7-M8 reel recorders. I use it as the input/driver in my SE 6V6 amplifier, and also in triode mode as the input stage in my 30W/ch 6L6 amp.

?
Which one? I don't think you want mine, because the EF86 is in triode mode (not well-suited for phono mode). I think you should Google search for some of the manufacturers' phono designs that have been suggested in this thread.
Mullard used it, so have others.
