When we've gotten this tube its been through Grant Fidelity's website.
After reading your very positive Linlai comment vs NOS 6SN7s, I emailed Linlai, asking about their "Base Model" 6SN7 listed for $59. I only need one tube, to try in a power amp's driver stage.
They're serious about their "Wholesale Only", and referred me to the Grant Fidelity site, where I can only purchase pairs of that tube, for $149 per pair.
I wanted to try one, but not that badly, and I'm not willing to risk ebay sellers.
Thanks for the heads up on this tube, Ralph. Maybe I'll find someone else who needs just one.

I'm currently using a basic Linlai 6SN7 bought from Viva a couple weeks ago. It's an excellent sounding tube that looks to be very well made. Much like 1973shovel, I only needed one and the price was right. I've bought tubes from Rachel ( formally Grant Fidelity) in the past and have been quite satisfied, but you do a pay a premium. Allegedly one is getting "pick of the litter", but this was a case where I was willing to roll the dice. The price was very reasonable and I've never had an issue buying from Viva in the past.
Are those old stock, or the new production Tung-Sol 6SN7? I bought one of the new production types from Jim McShane when he still had them, and I've been happy with it. But I've had the itch to try something else, and Ralph's nod to the Linlai has now increased the itch.
If you have a current production Tong-Sol, have you compared it to the Linlai base model 6SN7 which you got from Viva?
Thanks!
Long ago I bought a Supratek Syrah preamp. Wonderful sounding piece. I still have it, but it's mothballed. The 2 boxes take up a lot of space and need plenty of air around them for cooling. Ask me how I know! Anyway, first thing I did was buy a set of NOS tubes for it (it uses lots of $$$ tubes) from the now sadly departed Charlie Kittleson at Vacuum Tube Valley. Among the tubes I bought was a pair of RCA 6SN7's. They lasted a pretty long time, but when they went south I replaced them with new production Tung Sol's (It was 2 babies later and the cost of NOS's was now prohibitive). I have to admit I didn't hear much difference, and those RCA's were, according to Charlie among the best available at the time. If I were to fire it up and it needed replacements I don't think I'd go for NOS 6SN7's again. I will say though that the difference between the complete retube, a 5AR4, 5881's, 417a's, 6GK5's, and the 6SN7's from the stock tubes Mick supplied was astonishing.
Yes, the Linlai replaced a new production Tung-Sol 6SN7 in the center position of an Erhard Elvis.
I like the T-S, but right now I'm liking the Linlai a bit more.
I noticed those Linlai at Viva Tubes too. But if they're a dealer for Linlai, why doesn't Linlai say so? They list Grant Fidelity as their only North American distributor.
I'm very skeptical of almost anything out of China. It's the Wild Wild East over there, and it seems like anything, even something as simple as a Wima cap, is subject to being counterfeited. If I want the assurance that I'm getting a true Linlai 6SN7 like the ones Ralph praises, then I'll just have pay up.
Thanks again for the head's up, KP !
