I was actually looking for some decent modern R&B when I found that - decided to take it the other way. I'll leave it to someone else who's more in touch with modern R&B to post something decent.
I've long been a fan of the bubblegum kind of stuff, Stylistics, OJays, Supremes, etc. from the mid 60s thru the mid 70s. I lost track of R&B when I switched to FM in the early 70s. And 50s R&B is pretty great too.
Modern R&B seems to be the likes of Drake. Uggh
I would probably lean to Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa - but they are more blues/rock or what I call sultry.
Seen him twice - always thought he was classy and worthwhile.

Saw her live. I wanted real bad to be a fan, love her look, her records not so much. Saw Joe live too - great performer and I really like his Black Country Communion band. Here's a perpetual "decent" source for R&B music -
BTW - Saw Hall and Oates a couple of years ago. Awesome live.
