One test is to put a single speaker on a lazy-Susan (so it can be rotated in place) and then take gated measurements from left-off-axis to on-axis to right-off-axis (-n degrees to 0 degrees to +n degrees) in fixed rotational increments and then compare.
Mic position would not change, speaker position would not change, just the speaker's rotation on the lazy-Susan.
Observed Delta's I would predict is:
- Tweeter-beaming to be the strongest on axis.
- Increased tweeter/midrange XO region summation/smearing issues the more you go off-axis (based on their center-2-center distance).

I would agree with your predictions. Then it would be interesting to see if they could be corelated to the observed best image consistently. The sweet spot would be somewhere in between maximum tweeter beaming and maximum smearing. Somewhere. But would there be a measurable quantity that predicts where somewhere would be consistently, or does it still come down to listening through the last couple inches of rotation?

My best image stabilization for all seating positions was controlling the 1st reflections (especially the cross reflections), thus removing their counterproductive and destabilizing influence on imaging.
I think you have that covered in spades in your venue.

When I did the conventional setup yes, I tried reflection, diffusion and absorption at the first reflection and absorption was the way to go. Of course now with the Rooze ... it's a whole other kettle of fish :-)
