I was lucky that you read my message.
We have to remember that some components wear out, such as electrolytic capacitors, requiring replacement after a few decades. That's where I am now. My energizers are decades-old now, so it's time for some maintenance.

Follow Ups:
I'll be interested in what you have to say about the Koss ESP-950 headphones when driven by a STAX driver unit. If they sound significantly better, perhaps I'll spend $200 for the adapter.
Happy listening!

I'll be happy to make listening reports once the dust has settled. I'm in the process of sending my first amp to Justin, and I haven't bought the adapter yet; $200, to me, is very expensive for a cable. I don't like being restricted to the stock energizer, but I've blown my audio budget for now. I need to lay off for a little while before I blow my wife's patience.

Where do you buy those adapters?
Thanks!
Darin Fong Audio has them on his website, although I'm not sure you can order them there.( I tried but received an odd message.) He wants between $155 & $165 there. The other choice is to buy from him through Amazon at $200. Obscenely priced for what it is, I feel, unless the five-pin connector & Koss extension cord are very, very expensive for him to acquire. I will say Fong's modification of the cord looks quite clean & professional, with a heavy rubber boot on the five-pin connector. Unless I find something else of similar apparent quality, I'll buy mine from him.
Fong seems to be the only game in town right now, unless you want to wire one up yourself. CEC Electronics used to advertise one on eBay for around $165, but you had to provide your own Koss cord.

If I can find the STAX plug at a reasonable price, I'll make my own adapter. My Koss headphones include an extension cable that I can use for the Koss plug. I looked for a STAX extension cable online, but all the ones I found cost more than $100. If you know of an inexpensive STAX plug or extension cable, let me know. I'll be happy to make an adapter for you, too. Of course, you'll need to provide the Koss plug because I have only one of those. You could use the Koss extension cable from your ESP-950 headphones like I plan to do.
I wish I could find someone with an old pair of STAX headphones that were broken and ready to be discarded. I could use the cable and plug to make an adapter. In fact, I'd be willing to pay a reasonable price for the STAX cable with plug.
Best regards,
John Elison
As you know, everything electrostatic is very expensive. This extends to the STAX extension cables. I got one essentially free when I bought a used system.

I just found the Moon Audio website with a five-pin connector that supposedly fits STAX amplifiers for a mere $25. It looks like it might be the one Darin Fong uses. I'm sure it will cost a bit more than $25 when shipping charges are added. Still, it shouldn't be too expensive, so I may order one of these.
