He was somethin' else at Woodstock...sorry to read of his passing today
many years ago , the local paper, the Los Angeles Times, ran a short where are they now piece and interviewed the man. Said he was still creating music , had a couple of things going, and was very happy living in a trailer parked in his son's driveway. to me that showed he valued family and stability pretty highly.
*
I saw him at Madison Square Garden about a year and a half after Woodstock. He put on a tremendous show that I still remember today as one of the best concerts I have ever seen. RIP.
His musical influence will continue to resonate for longer than any of us here will know.
RIPeace.

Caught Sly & The Family for a brief, rainy late night concert in July '69 at Laurel Md Pop Festival. They came on as the closing group, and were delayed by rain. By the end of their short set, the crowd was setting fire to the folding wood chairs. i believe they were playing (I wanna take you) Higher! Incredible close to an incredible night ( including FZ and the Mothers, and also the original JB Group just before Jeff dissolved that band).
