Was in the NYT during covid when the AFT union wanted continuous pay ---will try to find it while the NYP wanted to cut staff; they did not and the the teamsters got paid.
Best bargain in NYC: Metropolitan Opera tickets for $50. Yup. 50 bucks. They are up high, and you cannot see everything from some of them, but if you want to try opera and don't want to spend a few hundred, this is the way. You can buy the tickets on line.
Best to buy in advance.
And the best bar in NYC, PJ Clarkes, is across the street.
And no, you do not have to dress up. Sweater and jeans works fine.

While we are on the subject of cost, the Philadelphia Orchestra performs at Marion Anderson Hall. Great orchestra, really comfortable hall, Yannick is the music director and frequent conductor. Excellent pre-concert talks.
Best seats are around $160. Worth the drive from Northern NJ. And a stay over in a nice hotel is pretty inexpensive by NYC standards.
he has not come around to Chicago yet but I am going to see him TONIGHT in Rotterdam with Rotterdam Philharmonic conducting Bruckner 3 ! ( and Strauss Four last songs )
A good seat here at De Doelen ( excellent acoustic to boot ) was 67 Euro!
