Replaced my Denafrips Venus 12-1 and Jay's Audio 2 Mrk, III, and I've never looked back.
For only $3500 ?
I don't know what you're talking about. I used a Sony 5400 SACD for years modified by Allen Wright, terrafirma clock. It only broke down in the power supply which could be easily fixed if I could get it to the right person. My best bet would have been Bill Thalman but he passed away recently. Thalman put in a new laser assembly for me, "new old stock," which he located in Japan. The Technics is a worthy successor to the Sony.

It was the one of common complaints about several brands of SACD players back in the day.Especially with Sony players, IIRC. I owned two Sony SACD players, both of them screwed eventually up, became unable to read multi-layer SACD discs.

I never had that problem with my 5400 nor with my current Technics model.
You must be one of the lucky ones.
So, I pulled the trigger on a Bryston BDA3 and WHOAAH. What a great sound. It achieved exactly what I was looking for i.e. to add a little more top end sparkle and detail without sacrificing anything.
You know when you've made a good investment when you realise "hey, I never heard that before" and right out of the box the Bryston has delivered.
I was a little concerned that it was nearly 10 year old tech, but that concern has long been dispelled.
