I've gone to great expense with component and network isolation, improved power supplies and various cabling choices to minimize brightness in my systems. Mind you, I'm not talking about equalization.
I find that eliminating noise results in a darker, more natural response revealing true inner detail. :)

many folks like the false brightness caused by untrapped RFiI, cheap switchers, et. al.
I suspect they are unfamiliar with the sound of non-electronic instruments.
Using a good filter to remove anything above 20kHz also results in a clean, more extended and analog treble.
