The shaft (inner bearing) and outer bearing wall is metal, the thrust pad at the top (it is inverted) is teflon, and the ball is ceramic. The instructions for the table tell me to place the oil in the upper oil bath of the inner bearing where the ceramic ball will sit and let it run over so it drips down along the bearing wall into the lower oil bath. Then the outer bearing slips over the inner bearing.Pictures are are in the link below, just scroll down the page.
Sounds like it would work. I also see VdH offers another oil, the TLF Type II which may work as well.
