I will mail you some upholstery thread as an option to the fish line. I find it communicates less resonance to the platter than fish line.BTW, if you have a high torque motor, the prat will continue even with a change in the viscosity. If you heard a difference between gun oil and motor oil, then you might have a lower torque motor.
I used Wahl oil (for hair trimming) in my TD165MK II and got excellent results.
The Mobile one I am using on my thread drive is 0-30 weight Mobile One. It is the lightest weight of the motor oils Mobile 1 produces. It is not as light as gun oil.
