RE: A silly post

For starters, I am using very expensive cartridges so I make a point never to play a record that hasn't been thoroughly washed and vacuumed in my RCM. I don't want any dirt/debris accumulating on the stylus.

Also, I make a point not to play worn-out LPs, to avoid damaging the stylus.

So, pretty much all LPs I listen to side by side for comparison are in a similar condition. Some have slightly more surface noise than others, but nothing significant, nothing that could skew the listening tests.

The differences in various pressing of the same album are very often significant. Of course, the most drastic differences in pressings would be with LPs that were pressed in different countries.

For example, Japanese pressings tend to be very lean on the bass. That quirk is due to the fact that Japanese tend to live in tiny apartments and the walls are often paper-thin, so neighbours tend to complain mostly when there is a loud bass emanating from the room. So, if I compare Japanese pressing of the Beatles LP "Help!" with the original UK pressing from 1965, the differences in how those two LPs sound are staggering.

I could go on forever, as I have many, many examples in my collection of LPs that illustrate this point.
