Really like that album, I bought a copy when it first came out, back when record stores were main stream, and never noticed any sonic problems.
But then, I am not super critical once the music plays. I do appreciate the things I lean here from those that are more discriminating.
The very mention of the band triggers some thoughts;
Traffic was such a strong band, even now, it is used to kick off the highest grossing movie of all time.
The new avengers movie kicks off with a traffic song, as the movie opens, traffic playing MR. Fantasy tells its tale, setting the scene. A sledge hammer opening, the creative team on this big of a project are not just some people who just happened to be in the same room.
I mention this because I think the super hero genre might be shunned by some here, and I feel that reasonable.
After all, I don't read comic books, so why should I seek a movie adapted from a comic book.
Plus, I am far from the age where I am comforted by an imaginary all powerful hero who will protect me in my powerless childhood.
I went for fun, and to see a big deal movie, the fact that it was filmed in the IMAX format and projected in three D, told me it was not just another product. Pus, I read some reviews.
Besides, some of my favorite movies were adapted. From books, plays, musicals, other movies, whatever, it seems comic books are a kind of story board already, where all the stories end up anyway. Why be a snob about adaptation of material at this point.
Getting hit with traffic playing "mr fantasy" with theatre (imax certified) sound,in a big hall, as the vivid film opened, certainly put me in a receptive mood for enjoyment, on top of the shared communal excitement of attending the theatrical event .
I don't think they still have a big old altec lansing voice of the theatre behind the screen today, but it still sounds good. Few places i attend sound better then my home stereo, but this eclipsed my sound. It soon faded into soudtrack, as the visual format took center stage, but i thoughtI would mention it. An easter egg for old hi fi traffic fans.
I treasure my old memory of seeing traffic, once . The band was in fine form, and to me, every song was a hit, since they ony played original songs, a greatest hits concert, and a story for another time.
