Re: Solen in Tweeter: loss of dynamics?

I have the same crossovers and I've worked with them extensively. Solens are pretty damn good, IME. They don't have qute the detail of some others, but they don't screw up the sound like a couple of big-name caps I tried. Auricaps are superb, but I really don't think the cap brand is the problem. Are you sure you have all your connections right now that you've made the changes? I have the circuit drawing if you need it.

What did you do with the 6.0uF cap ahead of the 10.7 pair? That one is tricky because Solen doesn't make a 6.0, and you really need the exact value for the tweeter bypass. Depending on how much you want to spend, you could get a 6.0 Auricap, or you could use a Solen 5.6+0.39.

I don't like using caps in parallel, but it's hard to avoid with this crossover, and it won't be any worse than you started out with. (I suspect a single 11uF cap would work well in place of the 10.7).

The biggest bang with these speakers is upgrading the inductor. That 18ga iron core saturates like crazy. The original inductor spec is .386mH, 0.25-ohm. Get a Solen Hepta-Litz 14ga (.39mH, .18-ohm) and you'll be shocked. Or you could use a 12ga Solen if you want to warm up the sound a tad.

I've designed a first-order crossover for this speaker if you're interested in a more radical mod.
